The second-ever single malt whisky from the community-owned GlenWyvis distillery, nestled in the valley of Ben Wyvis mountain in the Scottish Highlands, makes for a rather exciting arrival. Sustainably distilled in 2018 from locally grown Concerto barley, this single malt was matured in a combination of ex-Tennessee whiskey barrels, oloroso sherry hogsheads, and refill Scotch whisky casks. After a patient wait, the new make spirit rested and evolved into this extremely impressive young Scotch, which was bottled in 2022. On the nose, it offers scents of dense summer fruits, delicately floral honey, and ripe plum. To the palate, it presents buttery malt, crumbly fudge, and vanilla pod, followed by green apple peel and hints of peppercorn. The aftertaste is characterised by heavy oak char, rich, silky caramel, a sprinkle of bitter cacao, and young orchard fruit.
