The Singleton of Dufftown Malt Master's Selection is an excellent introduction for those new to single malts. This bottling was crafted by The Singleton master of malts, Craig Wilson, who meticulously selected and blended the whisky. It was then matured in European and American oak casks with three variants: ex-wine, ex-sherry, and ex-bourbon. On the nose, soft orchard fruit esters evolve into boiled apple candies, with white pepper crackling through golden syrup and buttered bread, complemented by a hint of marzipan icing in the background. The palate reveals a slightly oily texture, carrying sweet notes of rich toffee, vanilla, and a hint of pear drops. Throughout, a green, grassy undertone lingers as youthful, vibrant spice prickles gently. The finish sees the spice dissipating to reveal more vanilla and a touch of wood ash. Overall, this is a thoroughly enjoyable dram of whisky, versatile in a variety of serves.
