Slane Irish Whiskey has released a fantastic special edition in honour of the rich musical heritage of its home, the esteemed Slane Castle. The inaugural Slane Castle concert took place in 1981, with Irish rock band Thin Lizzie headlining the event. Proving instantly popular, the Slane Festival continues to thrive over 40 years later. As with Slane's traditional expression, this edition blends whiskeys from various casks: virgin oak casks, seasoned Tennessee whiskey and bourbon casks, and Oloroso Sherry casks. To commemorate the classic 45rpm vinyl record format, the Slane team has increased the proportion of virgin oak from 35% to 45%, and the bottling strength has been elevated to 45% ABV. The nose is greeted by vibrant oak char, fresh apple, and creamy vanilla, which are cushioned by a gentle gingery spice. On the palate, one can savour sweet notes of nougat, dark plums and berries, with silky butterscotch complemented by hearty helpings of toasted oak. The finish features an aftertaste of buttered popcorn, vanilla richness with orchard fruits, toffee, hints of sawdust, and a subtle prickle of pepper. Why not put on some music and enjoy a sip?
